Dr. Forest B. Argue Memorial Pool

F.B. Argue Recreation Area Opening Info

Because so many parents have asked, we will be having a third session of swim lessons beginning on August 4, 2014. If you want to register your child/children for these lessons, ask the gate keeper at the Town Beach. The last class for the night session will also be held on Monday, August 4th.

The Parks and Recreation Commission would like to thank all of the parents for their support this season. Thank you also to Mrs. Adams for reading a day or two a week. She has been sharing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with all interested listeners. We are also continuing with our daily activities during the week. We will make bugs again on Monday, August 4. We have a duck hunt on Tuesday, Airhead Bingo on Wednesday, Games on Thursday, and Sand Castle Building on Friday. Come down and join in the fun!

The recreation area will be open through August 23, 2014. Watch for information about pool day.

There will be activities during the summer which will be advertised at the recreation area. At this point we are planning Arts and Crafts on some Mondays, Duck Hunt on Tuesday, Airhead Bingo on Wednesday from 2:30- 3:30, Game Day( card games, checkers, yatzee, mancala, Candy Land, etc) on Thursday, and Sand Castle building to be judged on Friday at 3:00.

The daily admission for residents is $0.75 per person or a family season pass can be bought for $40. Daily admission for non-residents is $1.00 per person. All persons entering the area will be expected to pay. Children under 5 years old will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Contact the Parks and Recreation Committee at 435-1850 or Forest B Argue Recreation Area (after June 24) at 435-7457 with questions.

Swimming Lessons

We will be offering swimming lessons again this summer. Registration for swimming lessons will be held at the recreation area from 12-5 the week of June 24. We will run two 2 week sessions (a third session may be offered pending enrollment). You will find more information about swimming lessons on the registration form.

The cost for the swimming lessons for residents is $10 per child, not to exceed $30 per family. The cost for non-residents is $25 per child not to exceed $75.

To register your child for swimming lessons please bring the form below to the F.B. Argue Recreation Area or contact the Forest B Argue Recreation Area at 435-7457 with questions.

Thank you to all the support we have received from parents this summer. We pride ourselves on being a safe and happy  environment for your children to enjoy throughout the summer. Our lifeguards are on duty from 12:00- 5:00 on weekdays. We are completing our first set of swimming lessons and will be starting our night time set of lesson next week.  There will be no night swimming except for lessons the weeks of July 20th and July 27th. If you have not heard about times for your child’s lessons please check in at the pool area. With warm weather, we have had great attendance so far. Because so many parents had asked for weekend hours, we are open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00. Please plan on using the pool area with your families on these days. You could even bring a grill and have a cookout. On Saturday, July 19, after the parade we will be open for free swimming and will be sponsoring a cookout as part of Old Home Day. For $2 you will be able to get a hamburger/cheeseburger or hot dog, chips and a drink. If you have any concerns, comments, or questions please contact Minni at the pool area. So, come down and join us for some family fun! We look forward to seeing you!

About the Dr. Forest B Argue Memorial Pool....

This three acre park located within walking distance of many homes in Pittsfield serves as the Town Pool.  If features two pavilions suitable for group picnics, arts and crafts, picnics a recently refurbished snack bar/bathroom building.  The pool is managed by the Pittsfield Park and Recreation Commission and is open seven days a week during the summer months.  A fishing derby, ice skating and other similar events are scheduled during the year.

The park was donated to the town by the Pittsfield Rotary in 1961 in memory of Dr. Forest B. Argue, MD.  This pond was previously known as Clarks Pond being used as a mill pond.  The pond was dredged, a new dam built, fencing erected about the perimeter of the pond area and a new bath house was erected.
