Dr. Forest B. Argue Memorial Pool

The Recreational Area is closed for the season!

FB Argue Recreation Area News

The FB Argue Recreation Area will close for the summer on Sunday, August 23, 2009. The area will not be open through Labor Day weekend this year because Labor Day is so late and school starts on August 26, 2009. Although there has been a lot of rain this summer, we have had a successful season running three sessions of swimming lessons, open swimming, bingo, duck hunt, and sand castle building contests. Thank you to all of our patrons throughout the summer.

About the Dr. Forest B Argue Memorial Pool....

This three acre park located within walking distance of many homes in Pittsfield serves as the Town Pool.  If features two pavilions suitable for group picnics, arts and crafts, picnics a recently refurbished snack bar/bathroom building.  The pool is managed by the Pittsfield Park and Recreation Commission and is open seven days a week during the summer months.  A fishing derby, ice skating and other similar events are scheduled during the year.

The park was donated to the town by the Pittsfield Rotary in 1961 in memory of Dr. Forest B. Argue, MD.  This pond was previously known as Clarks Pond being used as a mill pond.  The pond was dredged, a new dam built, fencing erected about the perimeter of the pond area and a new bath house was erected.
