Programs

Smarter Balanced

The Smarter Balanced Assessment System will replace existing statewide assessments in mathematics, reading, and writing (the NECAP) and offer significant improvements over assessments of the past. These new assessments will be administered online and will adapt to each student’s ability, giving teachers and parents better information to help students succeed. The NH Department of Education has an FAQ sheet if you would like more information.

Meet Mrs. Lewis

Mrs. Lewis is our new fourth grade teacher. She grew up in Syracuse, New York and earned her teaching degree from the University of New Mexico. Mrs. Lewis moved back to NH two years ago and taught fifth grade at Saint Elizabeth in Rochester. She has been married for nineteen years and has a fourteen year old daughter. In her spare time, Mrs. Lewis enjoys reading and flying. She is working towards her class one pilot’s license

Target REDcard

PES has recently received a check for over $230 from Target as a donation for school supplies! PMHS also received a check for $70 from Target. These donations came from shoppers who use their REDcard at Target and have designated Pittsfield as their school of choice. If you have a REDcard, please consider naming Pittsfield as your school.

Other easy ways you could help bring in money for our school include collecting and sending in Boxtops and Campbell Soups Labels for Education. All of these little donations add up over time. Last year PES earned more than $2,000 from Boxtops collections. Just drop them off at the Main Office of either building!

3rd Grade Artist-in-Residence

This week, third graders worked with Marek Bennett, a New Hampshire based cartoonist, musician, and educator. Students were able to incorporate sequential narrative cartooning techniques into a comic about a region of the United States. Marek’s comic work includes his recent web comic and graphic novel, SLOVAKIA: Fall in the Heart of Europe, numerous community specific mini-comics projects (such as serving as the Official Cartoonist of New Hampshire’s Weeks Act Centennial), the long-running Xeric Awardwinning weekly newspaper strip “Mimi’s Doughnuts”, and more. The third graders had a great time discovering their own unique capacities for storytelling and communication as they created their region comics.
