Pittsfield Public Notice
The Town of Pittsfield will be inspecting the municipal
sewer mains by closed circuit television video camera
starting on December 2, 2014. The camera inspection will
require high pressure cleaning of the sewer lines prior to
running the video camera. The high pressure cleaning process
flushes the sewer lines; during cleaning, structures that
are not properly vented may experience a vacuum that removes
static water from fixture traps, such as toilets and sinks.
The static water can be replaced by running the faucet or
flushing the toilet when the cleaning is done. Any
unauthorized drainage connections to the sewer main may
experience flooding of wash water and septage. Should you

Pittsfield Zoning Board of Adjustment
The Pittsfield Zoning Board of Adjustment is seeking
residents interested in serving as Alternates (2) on the
Zoning Board of Adjustment. Interested residents should
submit a letter of interest to Pittsfield Town
Administrator, Town Hall, 85 Main Street, Pittsfield, NH
03261.
Register to Vote
Anyone who would like to register to vote may come to the
Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall to fill out a voter
registration form during regular business hours, and it will
be given to the Supervisors to confirm the applicant is
legally qualified to vote in our community (RSA 654:12)
during their next scheduled meeting. The last day to be
added or make any changes to the checklist before the Nov. 6
General Election is October 27th during the Supervisors’
meeting. People may also register to vote on Election Day.
Anyone wishing to register to vote must show proof of their
identity, age, citizenship and domicile. The most common
form of proof is a photo ID in the form of a NH driver’s
license with a Pittsfield address, but other forms may
acceptable. A more complete list can be found in RSA 654:12.
If an individual has an out of state photo ID or a NH photo
ID that does not have a Pittsfield address, the applicant
may also fill out a domicile affidavit or, in Pittsfield,
other acceptable alternative proof of domicile includes a
copy of a utility bill or statement from their landlord in
addition to the photo ID.12.
Volunteers Wanted
The Pittsfield Emergency Management Operations Center is looking
for volunteers to man shelters in the event of emergencies,
whether natural causes (weather related) or human caused.
This is an excellent way to help your community when
needed. Training in basic first aid by the American Red
Cross, and how to properly manage the shelter will be
provided. Questions or volunteer submission of interest

Names for the Veterans Memorial at Dustin Park
The American Legion, in
conjunction with the Pittsfield Historical Society, is attempting to
undertake the challenge of honoring all military personnel
sent out from Pittsfield. Those who have served
during times of declared war or conflict will have their names
engraved on the monument at Dustin Park dedicated for this purpose.

BOSTON POST CANE
The Boston Post Cane
was the brainchild of Edwin A. Grozier, publisher of the now
defunct Boston Post, a large circulation newspaper.
In 1909 he sent gold-headed canes to the Board of Selectmen
in 700 towns throughout New England. Likely the idea was to
publicize his newspaper. Manufactured by J. F. Fradley Co.,
the canes had a 14-carat head with the inscription,
“Presented by the Boston Post to the oldest citizen of [the
town’s name]”. The selectmen were asked to present it to the
oldest person in town, as long as they remained there, and
upon death, pass it on to the subsequent oldest person.
Unlike many towns,
Pittsfield retains its original cane. To avoid losing it, in
1999 the select board asked Paul Richardson to make a case
so that it could be properly displayed in the town office.
Six replicas were purchased and are now given to the oldest
person to keep permanently. Bertha Hammen received the first
one in 2003.
Through the years the
cane has been passed along intermittently. There have been
times when it was returned but not given out for several
years. Unfortunately the town does not have a list of the
persons to whom it has been given. Pittsfield Historical
Society Historian Larry Berkson is putting together a list
