Pittsfield NH Fire Department

33 Catamount Rd.
Pittsfield, New Hampshire 03263

The Pittsfield Fire Department provides fire, emergency medical, rescue, and code enforcement services to the businesses and residents of Pittsfield, as well as mutual aid to the surrounding communities as a member of the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact. We are staffed 24-hours a day/7 days a week by three full-time EMTs and three full-time firefighter/EMTs, who are supplemented by per-diem firefighter/EMTs. Combined, our Department has 29 members, who serve in the capacity of Fire Chief, administrative assistant, full-time staff, per-diem staff, or as an on-call officer or firefighter. Additionally, our Support Unit has five members. We respond to approximately 800 calls annually with a fleet that includes two engines, two ambulances, a tanker, a forestry, a boat and a staff vehicle.

A message from the office of the State Fire marshall:
When should I shovel snow off my roof?

We Can’t Help You If We Can’t Find You!

What would happen if you called 911 for an emergency and the fire truck, ambulance or police cruiser drove by your house? It wouldn’t be good, right? Stop and ask yourself these three questions:
- Does my house/driveway have a number on it?
- Is the number clearly visible from the road?
- Is the number visible from the road in both directions?
The Pittsfield Firefighters Association can help with that, in an effort for emergency responders to better find your home in the event of an emergency. You can obtain an 18” x 6” blue reflective sign with 4” white numbers at the Pittsfield Fire Department at 33 Catamount Road. There is no specific cost to pick one up, all we ask is you make a donation to the Pittsfield Firefighters Association so we may continue to offer programs such as this. Stop by the Pittsfield Fire Department for your sign and HELP US FIND YOU. If you have any questions regarding this program please stop by the station or call 435-6807.

Spring and Summer Safety Tips

The Pittsfield Fire Department Identifies a Serious Fire Safety Concern

The Town of Pittsfield Fire Department is spreading the message about fire safety in residential rental units. During several recent incidents members of the Pittsfield Fire Department have discovered missing or disabled smoke detectors in rental units throughout the community. Occupants of rental units with missing or disabled smoke detectors are at an increased risk of injury or death in the event of a fire in their residence or in a neighboring unit. “The early notification of a fire that is provided by residential smoke detectors is one of the most important factors in surviving a fire in a residential unit” says Chief Rob Martin.

New Hampshire RSA 153:10a requires all multi-unit dwellings and rental units to be equipped with automatic fire warning devices as well as carbon monoxide detection devices and tampering with these devices is a misdemeanor (RSA 634:2 IX). For additional information or to schedule a courtesy inspection you can email the department at or call the station @ 435-6807.

State of New Hampshire Smoke Alarm Requirements

The Pittsfield Fire Department placed the newest member of the fire department - 72 Ambulance 2 - into service on January 16, 2014. The new ambulance is a 2014 Chevy/Braun ambulance which replaces the 10-year old 2004 Ford/Braun ambulance.

Winter safety tips from the Pittsfield Fire Department

- Keep all exits clear of snow
- Keep all heating vents and dryer vents clear of snow and ice to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
- Keep fire hydrants free from obstruction of snow during the winter season. As you shovel or clear snow off your driveway and sidewalk, please take time to clear the snow from around fire hydrants (3’ radius). During a fire, seconds count! The extra minute removing snow from around fire hydrants may save your neighbor’s home or yours.
- Keep your house number readily visible.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

The Pittsfield Firefighters Association is honored to be a recipient of a 2013 E. P. Sanderson Trust Fund grant.

Based on a review of fire department needs, a proposal for emergency scene equipment was submitted. This equipment will assist us in keeping an emergency scene safer by offering more protection to personnel and those in need, and by better identifying an emergency scene. Reflective safety vests, collapsible road signs, safety cones, portable road barricades, and portable light towers have been purchased through this grant award. This equipment will benefit us in the future, during weather emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, and other situations that require additional visibility and security. Thank you to The E. P. Sanderson Fund for making this possible.

EMT Kristen Ahearn, EMT Kenneth White, and Acting Fire Chief Nick Abell with the new child safety seats recently awarded to the Department.

On behalf of the Pittsfield Fire Department and community, EMT-I Kristen Ahearn and Acting Chief Nicholas Abell recently applied for The New Hampshire EMS for Children Program’s 2013 Child Passenger Safety Seat grant and were awarded two child safety seats to be used in the ambulances. The one-time grant is funded by NH Safety Agency funds. Each seat fits a child from 5 to 80 pounds and can be appropriately secured to the ambulance cot or seat. Child safety seats are required equipment on ambulances operating in New Hampshire and the department’s current seats will expire next year. The seats due to expire will be used by the Police Department for the remainder of the year. The grant included 2 Radian Diono child safety seats, covers, and carrying bags. Our appreciation goes to EMT Ahearn and Acting Chief Abell for completing this process and to The New Hampshire EMS for Children Program for awarding this grant.
