TumbleBook Directions

About the TumbleBook Library. The TumbleBook Library is a collection of animated, talking picture books and puzzles. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which have been license by Tumbleweed Press Inc. and have been converted to the TumbleBook format. TumbleBooks and TumbleQuizzes are created in Flash animation and require the Flash plug-in to view and hear the animation. The great majority of computers and operating systems are already preloaded with Flash. If you are unable to view the books, you can download the Flash plug-in for free at www.macromedia.com.

Logging into the Site. You should be able to just click on the TumbleBook icon. Occasionally, things don't work right. If you have any problems logging in, please call the library at 435-8406.

Navigating the Site. You may want to first explore the site and check out all the books, games, and features. The catalog has book descriptions, book review, and author/illustrator/publisher information. You can view a TumbleBook by clicking on the "View Online" button. There are a number of ways you can access a book:

The index page lists all the TumbleBooks and TumbleGames. Click on the hyperlink and it will take you right to that TumbleBook.

Scroll through the collection in any of the sections:

Story Books are picture books you can listen to or read on your own.

Tumble Readables are large print "Read-On-Your-Own" story, chapter and YA books. A text size slider enables the reader to increase the text size to up to 34PT.

Life Learning provides books which teach kids about important social and health issues, in a fun, education manner.

Language Learning is a growing collection of French, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian books.

Reading Levels: Each title has recommended reading levels for both automatic and manual modes. Click on the reading level to see other books at the same level.

Once you hare familiar with the collection, the fastest and easiest method to beet around is to add favorite titles to the "My Favorite" section.

You can also navigate the website in other languages. A drop down menu on the top right hand corner of the site allow you to view the entire site in Spanish, French, or Chinese.

Using TumbleBooks. Automatic/Manual Button: TumbleBooks are designed to be experienced in either automatic or manual mode. In automatic madden, the pages turn by themselves and are narrated. In manual, the narration is turned off and children turn the pages at their own speed.

The Pause Button: You can use the pause button to stop the story at any time to practice story prediction, interpret picture, discuss new vocabulary words, empathize with a character, discuss possible consequences of actions, encourage problem solving, or provide historical, geographical, or other perspectives.

TumblePad Word Helper: This feature allows you to click on a book to hear a sentence repeated, or click on a vocabulary word to hear it sounded out. This feature is not available in all stories.

Puzzles and Games. The TumblePuzzles and memory TumbleGames are educational games to play after reading a book.
