Audio Books
Are you
interested in free Audio books? Are you going to be driving a long
distance “over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s
house” for Thanksgiving? A good book will add enjoyment to your
journey!
Due the
generosity of Globe Firefighter Suits the Carpenter Library has
joined the NH downloadable audio book program. Through this new
statewide system Pittsfield library card holders can select from
over 900 available books for download to their personal computer.
New books will be added to the selection on a regular basis. Once a
book has been downloaded to your computer the book can be moved to a
portable MP3 player, and many of the books can be burned to CD’s, or
you can listen to the book through your computer. The website for
the selection of books is
http://nh.lib.overdrive.com. Before you
can download a book you will need to get a personal access number.
You can get your number, along with some download instructions by
visiting the library, or give us a call (435-8406) or send an
email.
The New Hampshire State
Library has expanded the Internet database subscriptions which they
purchase for the use of all the state’s citizens. HeritageQuest
Online has been added to Ancestry Library Edition to provide
expanded resources for people interested in genealogy and history
research. You can access
HeritageQuest Online. The username for
citizens of Pittsfield is “0C3K24K67C7”, the password is “welcome”.
In addition the complete Internet
archives, and current issues, of the Concord Monitor have been added
to those of the Union Leader through the Newsbank database. Both
newspapers and the remaining research databases are most easily
accessed through the Pittsfield Middle High School website, in the
academic resources section.
If you have any questions, or
would like full descriptions of the databases, just ask during your
next visit to the library.
Programs
Story hour for children and their
parents/caregivers is held at 10:00 AM on Fridays during the school
year. Come and join us - we read books, sing songs, play games and
make crafts. Each story ends at about 11:00 AM.
Help Wanted!
The Library needs volunteer
workers who can give 2 or 3 hours at a time on a regular basis.
Contact the librarian if you are interested in helping.
