Circulation Policy
April, 2001
LIBRARY CARDS
Library cards are issued at no
charge to residents of Pittsfield, and to those who teach or
volunteer in Pittsfield. Others are charged $13.00 per year per
card. Please bring your card with you when you visit the library.
BOOKS
Books are loaned for a period of
TWO WEEKS with one two-week renewal allowed.
BOOK
FINES
There are no overdue fines on books
at this time, but there is a “conscience jar” at the circulation
desk. This is for donations from overdue or simply generous patrons.
Feel free to add to it.
OTHER
MATERIALS
The following materials are loaned
for a period of ONE WEEK with no renewals:
-
PERIODICALS (MAGAZINES)
-
AUDIO BOOKS (BOOKS ON TAPE)
-
VIDEO TAPES (MOVIES,
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL, and DOCUMENTARIES)
Other Material fines
There are overdue fines of $.50 per
day for AUDIOS and VIDEOS.
Overdue material will be counted as
late from the time the library opens on the day after the due date.
There is a drop slot in the door available 24 hours a day.
There is a $3.00 per item maximum
fine on overdue material, as long as it is returned. Fines stop
accumulating as soon as material is returned even if the fine has
not been paid. However, borrowing privileges are suspended until
fines are paid, If you have trouble paying fines, a payment plan MAY
be negotiated with the librarian.
We ask your cooperation with this
policy. It has been initiated after much thought, lost materials,
and a great deal of time spent by staff trying to locate materials
kept too long by a relatively few patrons.
INTERNET USAGE POLICY
April, 2001
The Carpenter Library
provides Internet Access on a space-available basis to patrons in
good standing (i.e. no overdue materials or outstanding fines.)
Patrons must show their library cards upon requesting Internet
access., sign a register at the circulation desk and sign an
agreement regarding usage.
Due to our limited
resources, the Internet is provided mainly for research and job
hunting. Access to the Internet is provided to the Carpenter
Library free of charge by Worldpath Communications.
Internet usage is limited
to one hour per patron per day. Time may be reserved by registering
with the librarian on duty. The Internet computer is also
available on a walk-in basis if it has not been previously reserved
for that time. The librarian on duty is the gatekeeper regarding
computer time, and if she requests that a patron relinquish the
computer, the patron must do so or forfeit future computer
privileges.
Downloading of files on
the library computers is NOT ALLOWED. Tampering with settings is
NOT ALLOWED. Patrons found to be doing these things will be barred
from further use of library computers.
Printing from library
computers is charged at the rate of 15 cents a page.
The Carpenter Library
employs no Internet filters. Patrons use the Internet at their own
risk. Parents of children under seventeen (17) years of age must
sign an agreement regarding their children’s use of the Internet at
the library. The Library takes no responsibility for the material
viewed by patrons,, regardless of the age of the patron.
Parents are encouraged to
accompany their children to the Library and to show them appropriate
web sites, as well as provide general how-to-find instructions. |
